Eco-tourism Spots in Bohol

 What is eco-tourism?

- It is a form of tourism involving responsible travel to natural areas, conserving the environment and improving the wellbeing of the local people. Its purpose is to educate the travelers.

Bohol is dubbed as a 'Haven of Tropical Natural Beauty' for a reason. It has attracted a growing number of tourists all around the globe by its majestic beauty. It's amazing flora and fauna makes it stand out. Bohol Tourism were excellent in spoiling us with jaw dropping attraction while managing to educate us and make us a Responsible Traveller.

So here are the Eco-Tourism Attractions in Bohol:

1. ANTEQUERA BASKET WEAVING
 - This is located in the town of Antequera, around 30 minutes ride from Tagbilaran City. This particular town is famously known for its basket weaving industry. The Basket Weaving skills has been passed down from older generation in this town since 1900's. Now this is the interesting part, all weavings were done in the respective homes of the weavers. For me, this is a great opportunity not just on how to learn weaving but to witness the lives of an ordinary Boholano. The tour fee is 400 pesos. You can email municipalityofantequera@gmail.com if you find this very interesting to experience. The schedule is from Monday to Friday. From 8:00AM until 5:00PM. (c) boholtourism.com

- If you wanted a tour that is less availed and less visited by tourist, you will love this one. Tribu Eskaya lies beneath the mountainous part of Duero Bohol. Tribu Eskaya Learning Tour provides a great opportunity to get to know the mystery of the Eskaya Tribe. This said tribe is known for their auxiliary language known as Eskayan or Ineskaya which is used for prayers, songs, and formal speeches. - dubbed as "Bohol's Cradle of Civilization" this tour will never disappoint you. This is located in Anda. About 111KM from Tagbilaran City. I prefer you will hire a private van or tour to visit here. In the Island, you will see some big an enchanted Balete Trees, tall limestone cliffs, forest which become the home for the birds and some animals, waterfalls, pulverized white sand beach, as well as the mystical caves which become the burial place long time ago. Here, you can see several boat coffins and earthenware jars. This particular Island once was become a ritual place due to its seclusion. We can also witness here ancient graffiti paintings and fossil shells embedded in some rocks.

- This farm was established in 1921 and is about 4,500 hectares of land. This is the oldest government livestock in the Philippines. Located in Brgy Lomangog Ubay, this eco-tour includes a local guide, orientation and a fresh milk. The best thing in this farm are the animals in here were GMO free and are free range, though these animals take a long time to mature, they can assure you that it is growth hormone or any questionable means of raising livestock free.

They can also customize based on their client's design and liking. But before the finish products, the raffia fibers passed thru numerous processes using barehand which they will share to the tourists. They will let you experience the process of harvesting the buri leaves, sun drying, leaves sorting, dyeing, weaving, designing and everything in between.
